The Walkable Neighborhoods for Seniors (WN4S) Project Grant was awarded to USOAC in January 2003.  Over the lifespan of this very successful project many other programs, projects, and events would come to fruition.

WN4S focuses on increasing the “walkability” of our neighborhoods for seniors.  USOAC board, staff, WN4S Peer Walk Club Leaders, and the WN4S Task Force work toward identifying the personal, physical, and environmental barriers that are preventing older adults from feeling safe, secure, and comfortable when walking throughout our communities.

We are proud to announce through a grant with the Arthritis Foundation that we will be offering the “Walk with Ease” program through two of our walk club locations. The class will run three days a week for one hour each day. Through the guidance of two Arthritis Association trained  and CPR certified leaders you will learn prevention tips, techniques, and stretching while increasing your strength and stamina.

It is our belief that if a neighborhood is walkable for seniors it is walkable for all ages.

USOAc is proud to annouce that we are being funded by the “It’s Up to All of Us” campaign, funded by a grant from the California Office of Traffic Safety, is California’s first effort to create and disseminate campaign messages that provide consistent statewide messaging regarding pedestrian safety.  Some of the designs have a norm change focus, since the most effective form of pedestrian safety education is that which influences cultural shifts.  The target audiences include pedestrians, drivers and communities, with particular emphasis on youth.
